| *sigh* |
[Feb. 8th, 2009|11:25 pm] |
So today while I was playing WoW I got up to get dinner and found the carpet wet to walk on.
I looked at the bathroom and found the toilet had overflowed. I turned off the water to the toilet and called Suncorp about insurance and they got me connected with a carpet cleaner who came over and assessed the damage.
Turns out.. by his recommendation that the carpet should be replaced. Carpet that was laid 6 months ago... *sigh*
If the source of the water was anywhere else but the toilet it would be dried and cleaned and not need replacing. But becuase it is the toilet... Suncorp is likely to insist the carpet is to be replaced.
For now I have 2 heavy duty fans blowing air both under and over the carpet to dry it out and ensure that no mold forms. It'll get properly cleaned on Wednesday.
So I'm $300 out of pocket (That's my Excess) the carpet to my whole unit is likely to be replaced and I have to get a plumber in to fix the toilet.
Not the relaxed Sunday night I was after.
I guess the new TV will just have to wait a little longer.
On a positive note... atleast I only have to pay $300 and not for the whole carpet drying/cleaning/replacing thing. Only unfortunate thing is that it didn't affect the main bedroom. The carpet in that room may not get replaced. Sounds like a good thing, however it means that there is a posability that the new carpet that gets laid may not match the old one.
We will see |

[Feb. 7th, 2009|10:52 pm] |
So it's about time I give my unit update.
It's almost done... almost. The kitchen is done and looking great. I only have one problem with the oven not actually working... but I have been using the kitchen for the last 3 months without any problems
The bathroom is still work in progress. The tiling had pretty much been completed (just grouting in the toilet that needs to be done). I can pretty much get a plumber in to put in the vanity and shower enclosures back in. Then it's done.
It's been a much longer road than I antipated to get here. The guy I got to do the tiling once told me he'd have it done by the end of September. But seeing as he was a cooworker I should have known he'd do the job on his own time and pace.
I wanted to have it all done before Christmas, so I should have a housewarming/NYE party... so much for plans.
I was expecting to take on a border soon after the renovations were done.. but considering the interest rate drops of recent... I can afford to live alone. The latest drop puts me at roughly would I would pay if I was renting. Together with that syimulus payout that is around the corner.... I will have enough money to by a semi decent home entertainment system. Espectially since I was going to buy aa LCD HD TV anyway (after I pay for the renos).
I'm still trying to figure out what size would be optinal for the unit. I'm thinking 40" at the moment. 1080p of course. I may have to reconfigure my lounge room too.
I still have to take photos of the place and intend to once the place is finished.... hopefully it'll be done before my next holidays (April). |

| Heroes Rumor |
[Jan. 10th, 2009|05:24 pm] |
I just read this new item on EZTV about Heroes.
It's not really a spoiler but it does relate to a possible thing that will happen in the future of Heroes. And it does drop a hint which I will hide for those who would rather not even see an allusion.

| Life on Mars |
[Jan. 4th, 2009|04:44 pm] |
I recommend this show to anyone. It's a show based on a 2006 UK series about a cop from 2008 who gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. He has no idea what has happened if he's in a coma and dreaming this or actually travelled back in time. The show doesn't let on to what is causing this, but he'll get flashes or hear things. But each episode seems to be different. One will indicate that he's in a coma another will say he's in purgatory. So it's a unknown and I'm not sure it's important.
The crux of the show is a modern cop working in the 70's with a little culture clash. The boss (played by Harvey Kietel) is willing to do anything to get the job done including infringing peoples civil liberties.
I'm up to episode 5 and I'm really getting into it. There is a mixture of humour injected into the show too. I got a huge kick out of one scene in the 5th episode. lordriffington & stephendann should also get the same enjoyment too.
I just hope that it doesn't get canned cause I'm enjoying it so far |

[Dec. 24th, 2008|11:48 am] |
I'm going to buy myself a new TV in the next month or so.
Anyone have any brand suggestions
I'm buying it largely to use with my XBox360 and to watch movies
It will be a Plasma Widescreen TV. Probably about 42" atleast.
Not sure on which brand though |

| The Future of Tex Murphy |
[Nov. 10th, 2008|09:00 pm] |
Funny I was just taling to lordriffington about this series recently.
http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/index.php/site/interviews/389/
And I Quote:
We are asking you this final question (we lie; we mean questions) on behalf of all adventure game fans. Is Tex Murphy dead? Is there a chance he will make a tenacious return to finish his case? Will he ever score with Chelsee (is it all too late)? We want to know! We need to know! We demand to know (grinning)!
Aaron Conners: Is Tex Murphy dead? NEVER! We want nothing more than to bring our favorite detective back for at least one final game. We have the story all written and ready to go...all we need is the money to produce the game. With any luck, Three Cards to Midnight will help us to realize this goal. And I can’t tell you if Tex will score with Chelsee, but he’ll definitely get his opportunity! And, of course, you must remember that our games are interactive, so it will be up to you! :-)
That's rather exciting... Hope that Tex Murphy will return |

This is a clip from the 2003 Swedish comedy Kopps.
I've seen an animated GIF on a forum from this clip and it made me look for the full thing.
I believe this movie was the inspiration fo Hot Fuzz

| Patton Oswalt |
[Sep. 19th, 2008|07:46 am] |
I really don't know how I got standup of Patton Oswalt on my computer.
I just just started up Winamp and queued every single MP3 on my computer and just skipped the track I didn't want to hear. Then a track of Patton Oswalt came on and I'm luaghing my guts out.
I don't know how it got there... maybe I downloaded it from a lan party I went to years ago or seomthing. What I do know is that I didn't consciously go out and download it and yet it's on my PC.
The funny thing is that I recently saw Patton on an episode of Reaper and at the William Shatner Roast.
Anyway.. here is an example of his work. I find his handling of a heckler to be funniest improv I've heard.
This bit about George Lucas is also hilarious.

| Kitchen So far |
[Sep. 17th, 2008|10:37 pm] |
I haven't really talked about my renovations recently. While I have done a lot of work on it ... there is nothing really to show for it other than a kitchen without flooring or tiles. And a bathroom devoid of tiles, vanities or shower enclosures.
While the Bathroom has yet to be tiled... The kithen has been tiled and just need a little grouting to be done.
I just got a few pictures of what was done today.
I share them with you now.

What is left to do? Well next week the vinyl in the kitchen is going down and the rest of the unit is being carpeted. (Last saturday I removed the carpet from the floor). Then it's just the rest of the tiling in the bathroom to do followed by the installation of the vanity & shower screen.
I plan to begin moving into the place within 2 weeks. |

| I iz tierd |
[Aug. 30th, 2008|05:15 pm] |
Carrying 27 boxes of tiles up stairs is exhausting.
I then pulled off all th tiles on my bathroom floor.
Tomorrow I will be scraping the remaining dried glue off the walls.
Over the next 2 weeks the tiling in the kitchen and bathroom will be done.
Then the Bathroom vanity gets installed and carpeting & kithen vinyl goes down.
I have 4 weeks leave set on the 29th of September. So that is my deadline for having the renovations done.
I'll be glad when this is all over and I can enjoy my new digs. |

| WOW! |
[Aug. 11th, 2008|07:53 pm] |
The Dark Knight has made $441 Million in US Box Office sales in just 24 days.
It is now the second highest grossing film ever and it's still going.
The second highest grossing film is Shrek 2. It make $441 million in it's 21 week run.
I'm just amazed by the shit loads of cash this film has made.
It is on the way to becoming the second movie to gross more that $500 million.
FYI. The highest grossing film is Titanic... it made $600 million in 41 weeks. |

| The Hollowmen |
[Aug. 1st, 2008|09:28 am] |
If you haven't heard or seen it yet. Working Dog productions have a new show on the ABC called The Hollowmen. I've just seen the first for episodes and I'm finding it hilarious.
It's a political comedy about a Think Tank set up by the Prime Minister. Pokes fun at the beauracracy in politics. It's really hard to explain the show and make it sound interesting.
Just give an episode a try. Here is a promo I found on YouTube

| Thunderclese, Hand of A'dal |
[Jul. 29th, 2008|01:57 pm] |
WARNING! The following contains World of Warcraft language.
I've been playing WoW again for the last 4-5 months now.
And I'd have to say that I'm enjoying the game again. I joined a guild who were just making their way through TK & SSC and starting attempts at Mount Hyjal. I'm really amazed that these guys took me on considering that I was seriously undergeared for those instances.
But they did and now I'm one of the most geared players in the guild. The best healing tree (the only in the guild on the active roster).
On Sunday we achieve an major milestone as a guild. We defeated Kael'thas Sunstrider.
It's great to be progressing through new content in a guild. To try, then fail and then eventually suceed is a great feeling.
And because we have downed both Kael and Vashj most of us got our Hand of A'dal titles.
I just hope we have time before WotLK to down Archimonde, Illidan & Kil'jaeden.
